Ianis Hagi's Rangers transfer value questioned as Barry Ferguson delivers price tag verdict

Barry Ferguson believes Rangers should pay no more than £2million to acquire Ianis Hagi this summer.

Reports in Romania claim the Genk playmaker is closing in on a permanent switch to Ibrox for a transfer fee around the £5m mark.

Rangers have an exclusive option to buy the 21-year-old after a short loan spell at the club, before the early conclusion to last season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hagi showed flashes of his potential on the European stage, but didn't get a proper chance to settle into the Scottish Premiership.

And for that reason Ibrox hero Ferguson thinks his value is lower than the figure being discussed.

He told PLZ Soccer: "I don't think it is going to be anywhere near £5million.

"I would probably look nearer the £2m or just below that.

"He certainly has potential and showed flashes when he was here.

"He's still not got that consistency level because he's only coming up for 21. It was an eye-opener coming over to Glasgow.

"You know what it is like to play for Rangers or Celtic. You are under severe pressure and he's probably never felt that before.

"But I do think he's certainly got potential but I don't think it is going to be anywhere near that transfer fee you mentioned.

"I think nearer the £2m mark I would take him.

"In the future I think he could be a big player but he just needs to show it week in, week out.

"I am not sure where his best position is. Whether it is on the right, left or just behind the forward.

"If I was Rangers I would certainly go and take him at the £2m mark."
