Ianis Hagi's Rangers transfer 'tremble' as Romanian media makes Steven Gerrard claim over playmaker's future

A report in Romania has claimed Steven Gerrard will be "trembling" over speculation surrounding the future of Ibrox playmaker Ianis Hagi.

The 22-year-old is rediscovering his best form in Glasgow after a slow start to the campaign and made a telling impact off the bench during the 1-0 win over Celtic.

And Hagi has had to deal with some recent transfer speculation with the likes of Sampdoria, Sevilla and RB Leipzig linked with a January move for the schemer.

And that speculation has grabbed headlines in his homeland and outlet Playtech believes the Rangers boss will be worried after recent developments.

But it's extremely unlikely that the former Genk man will be going anywhere as he remains a key man at Ibrox as they close in on Premiership title glory.

And it comes after Romania legend Gheorghe Popescu let rip at Hagi's detractors who cannot seperate him from his legendary dad Gheorghe.

He said: "Let's forget the name on the back.

"He's Gheorghe Hagi's boy, but what's the point of this? I don't understand why he's put under so much magnifying glass.

"No Romanian player who plays abroad is so much under scrutiny. Gheorghe Hagi had some exaggerated statements, but I take his statements as those of Hagi's father, not as those of coach Hagi. Some of his statements seem exaggerated, but I understand them.

"It seems to me that he is on a very, very good road at Rangers, in a league where he plays every three days. I look at the statements of the coach, who says he is very satisfied.

"I don't see why there's so much pressure on Ianis. He does not have Gheorghe's physical qualities, but he has a different physical structure.

"He needs time, he needs to play. It is in a correct progression.”
