Ianis Hagi Rangers transfer waiting game as Genk stand by for Ibrox side to pay up

The future of Ianis Hagi is set to be decided one way or another in the coming months.

On-loan at Rangers from Genk, the playmaker may well have kicked his last ball for the Ibrox side as the coronvirus pandemic grips football.

The club have an option to buy the 21-year-old when his loan deal expires at the end of the season, which could ensure a relatively straightforward scenario when the time comes.

But reports from Italy have claimed Hagi would prefer not to remain in Scotland, longing to play in a more "high profile" league.

The latest from Belgium is that Genk are waiting to see if Rangers will pay up the £4million it's believed the Romanian will cost.

Het Belang van Limburg report sporting director Dimitri de Conde is willing to begin looking at "other options" if no offer is forthcoming from Ibrox.

It's been claimed in recent weeks that Lazio hold an interest in Hagi and that discussions have taken place between the Serie A club and the player's camp.

Hagi has shown his talent on Rangers' Europa League adventures but hasn't quite found his feet domestically.

The physical nature of the Premiership often requires a bedding in period for some but Rangers could now be forced to make a decision over Hagi based on the available evidence.

UEFA's aim remains for the domestic season to finish but there's widespread suspicion this will simply not be feasible.

There has been speculation clubs could allow loan deals to be extended if play resumes at some point during the summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether this will be applicable in Hagi's scenario.
