Ianis Hagi Rangers to Roma transfer doubt as insider points to Jose Mourinho mindset amid £17m rumours

Gheorghe Hagi's former agent has cast doubt on the possibility of the Romanian legend's son leaving Rangers in January.

Reports in his homeland suggested Ianis Hagi was set for a £17m switch to Roma, with a fee agreed in principle between the two clubs.

The player himself insisted he's focused on impressing with the Premiership champions, with games against Dundee and Sparta Prague looming.

Victor Becali represented Hagi Sr during his playing career, with the former Barcelona and Real Madrid man widely regarded as Romania's greatest ever player.

And he believes it's unlikely the Serie A giants would make their intentions known this far in advance, despite comments from another Becali - Giovanni, who has erroneously claimed to be Hagi's agent - stating Jose Mourinho was interested during his time at Tottenham.

Becali said: "My opinion is that no team now says what players they want to take in the winter.

"Maybe Dinamo (Bucharest) or some teams like that but Roma wouldn't say now.

"No-one knows what Mourinho has in mind for the winter, probably just some people in the club's entourage.

"Ianis is fine there at Rangers, the lad said it himself.

"He's focused on what's going on there, though of course no-one would say no going to a much better team in a much better league."
