Ianis Hagi Rangers penalty promise as Steven Gerrard sent spot-kick guarantee

Romanian legend Gabi Balint insists Steven Gerrard MUST stick with Ianis Hagi on penalty duty.

The playmaker saw a first-half spot-kick saved during Rangers ' stunning Europa League last 16 win over Braga before recovering to set up Ryan Kent's winner.

Balint - who was the assistant manager of Romania to Ianis' dad Gheorghe was in charge of the country - knows a thing or two about taking spot kicks.

He netted the winning penalty for Steaua Bucharest in the 1986 European Cup Final penalty shoot-out win against Barcelona.

And he believes Hagi should stay on spot kicks for Rangers.

He said: "I give you my word he will score the next one. You know what he will do? He will go back to the training and practice another 100 penalties.

"That's what his father would have done and that's what he will do.

"He is getting more and more mature every day. He's actually become a bit of a leader at Rangers. If you look at his performance after he missed the penalty, it had no negative impact on him.

"And the pass for the goal was genius. How many other players in Europe could have shown that creativity to do that pass? His technical ability is excellent.

"He's going to be such a top player."
