Ianis Hagi Rangers decision backed as former manager opens up on needs of 'rare' talent

A former Romania Under-21 manager has backed Ianis Hagi to succeed at Rangers after finding a "favourable environment".

The attacking midfielder, son of the legendary Gheorghe, joined the Ibrox club in January.

Hagi arrived on loan from Genk with an option to buy, with Rangers expected to take up that option before the end of the month.

And one of his former managers believes a permanent stay in the Premiership could be exactly what the talented youngster needs.

Daniel Isaila told Telekom Sport: "He is an extremely talented, fantastic player.

"I remember that I was extremely criticised for selecting him when he was not playing for Fiorentina. Club presidents kept sending me messages, I was under tremendous pressure.

"Look, I wasn't wrong. He's a player who can decide a game for you at any time.

"Players like him are rare and must be supported, encouraged. I believe a lot in him, he has to find a favorable environment.

"I think he's found that now, he feels really good at Rangers and he's showing that."
