Ianis Hagi critics slaughtered as Rangers hero earns acclaim for managing hype

Impressed Steau boss Edward Iordanescu insists Romania are now enjoying the best of Ianis Hagi after being too quick to write him off.

The Rangers star kept the Romanians in touch with a play-off spot as they defeated Armenia 1-0 in Bucharest to keep them in second place in their World Cup qualifying group behind Germany.

Hagi netted a superb strike against the Germans and won more praise for his display on Monday.

And Iordanescu reckons it's only now their country is beginning to see the best of him

He pointed out: "I feel sorry for Ianis because no one in Romania was patient with him. He was analysed, judged and labeled at too young an age.

"We failed to understand he was just a child and we wanted him to perform immediately and of course, we all made the mistake of comparing him to his father, which was totally unfair to both of them.

"Fortunately for him and for the national team, Ianis has shown increasing signs that he will become an outstanding player. Not only for his goal against Germany, but his all-round play.

"Clearly, he is getting better every year and has matured on and off the pitch.

"He has a fantastic future and it's magnificent for Romania we have another inspiration Hagi for the national team."
