Ian Wright slams Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for "putting himself above Marcus Rashford's health"

Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has accused Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of putting his own interests above the health of crocked forward Marcus Rashford.

England international Rashford faces up to three months on the sidelines with a back injury which he aggravated after coming on as a substitute against Wolves in the FA Cup last week .

After that game Solskjaer admitted that the decision to bring Rashford on had backfired, because the 22-year-old had been "struggling for a little while" with back issues.

The forward missed the weekend defeat at Liverpool , and now faces significant time on the sidelines in a blow to United's top four hopes.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live's Monday Night Club , Wright says that responsibility for the injury lies solely with the United manager.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he knew Marcus Rashford was struggling and played him against Wolves - now he's out for three months," said the former Arsenal forward.

"We're talking about an explosive player that's going to need to be right [to play].

"Solskjaer's under intense pressure to get United back where they were and he's thought about himself before he thought about the player - Solskjaer has put himself above Marcus Rashford's health.

"Now, one of their most promising and most important players is out and that has to come to the manager's door.

"Rashford has started every game and for him to play that much football, with the problems he is having with his back, you can't mess around with that and Solskjaer has to take some blame in still playing him."

United are now likely to lean on forwards Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood for the next few months, although they have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.
