Ian Wright slams "disgraceful" Leicester fans for abusive comments during Community Shield

Ian Wright has slammed a section of Leicester City fans for their "disrespectful" behaviour at Wembley during the Community Shield.

The Foxes, who won last season's FA Cup, saw off Manchester City to lift another piece of silverware.

Kelechi Iheanacho's late penalty helped seal a 1-0 win for Brendan Rodgers' men in a game that was shown on ITV.

Wright was among the pundits with Emile Heskey and Roy Keane also in attendance.

The former Arsenal man claims the fans near the gantry hurled abuse towards him and the Irishman.

He said on Twitter : “Let me just clear that up because obviously Leicester fans know how much respect I got for them, their owners and constantly bigging them and what they do.

"But what I got to say doing punditry from the gantry where we were some of the Leicester fans what they were doing calling Roy ‘Irish C’ mouthing the words to me, they know what words they were mouthing to me.

"You let yourselves down bro, big time. Really disappointed, really disappointed on the day what was a fantastic day for Leicester City fans.

"Them fans in front of those kids, throwing the stuff down what they were doing, mouthing and shouting what they were shouting, disgraceful behaviour man.

"Leicester shouldn’t be acting like that, certain fans you don’t represent Leicester.”

Wright has been vocal in his opposition to racism for some time and has actively sought to address the issue.

On the pitch, Leicester were able to lay down a market, albeit against a vastly weakened City side.

Nathan Ake's late error forced him to give away the decisive spot kick.

Speaking after the game Rodgers told the BBC: "There was a great feeling coming here today. Every Leicester player, fan, staff member coming here, it was a really special feeling.

"We wanted to take that into the game and keep that feeling going, and thankfully we've done that."

Pep Guardiola was able to hand a debut to new £100m signing Jack Grealish, who moved to the Etihad this week.

However he was without the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden whilst he is still short of a striker.

"Congratulations to Leicester," said the Catalan.

"I am more than satisfied with how we played. Many things were really good, the young players were excellent.

"We got minutes for players so in general, many good things."
