Ian Wright sends message to Stan Kroenke and the Arsenal board with worrying transfer verdict

Arsenal need new signings in the summer.

That is the verdict of former striker Ian Wright, who thinks the club would struggle again next season if they fail to make moves in the summer transfer market.

The Gunners are 10th in the Premier League table following their record-breaking 13th league draw on Saturday.

They have drawn more than half of their games this season, winning just six, to sit closer to the relegation zone than the top four.

Mikel Arteta arrived at the club in December, taking over from Unai Emery, and was only able to make loan signings during the January transfer window, bolstering his defensive options with Pablo Mari from Flamengo and Cedric Soares from Southampton.

What Arsenal need to do during the winter break

But loanees are not going to cut it in the summer transfer window, with Wright calling on the board of directors to back their head coach or face another season of mediocrity.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live's Monday Night Club, former Chelsea star Chris Sutton posed an interesting question of Wright.

He said: "With the same set of players going into next season and not adding anyone, where do you think Arsenal will finish under Arteta?"

Wright hesitated before answering.

He said: "I think they'd finish outside the top six.

"They're going to have to add. I don't think he's got the right players to implement what he wants to do yet.

"Pablo Mari might make a difference, [William] Saliba will come back from loan, you're hoping them two can make a difference. Tierney will be a major plus. Soares is a fantastic signing.

"It's going to be a while [before Arsenal start challenging for titles]."
