Ian Wright sends classy message to outgoing Arsenal defender as transfer is confirmed

Ian Wright has sent a classy message to Zech Medley, after the young defender’s departure from Arsenal was confirmed.

Medley made three substitute appearances for the senior side after joining their academy from Chelsea in 2016, two in the Europa League and once in the FA Cup.

He was also named in two Premier League squads as he made his way through the ranks, previously captaining the Gunners’ Under-18s side.

The young Englishman was sent out on loan last season to Gillingham and Kilmarnock in an attempt to gain first-team playing time, making 28 appearances in total for the two clubs.

But while football.london reports that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was keen to keep him at the Premier League side, Medley has instead opted to leave the club.

It is understood that the 20-year-old is seeking a fresh challenge and so has decided to move to Belgian Pro League side KV Oostende.

The defender has signed a four-year deal with De Kustboys and has taken to Instagram to bid farewell to the Gunners.

Alongside a range of pictures taken during his time with the club, Medley also posted a heartfelt message in the post’s caption.

Who should Arsenal sign in this summer's transfer window? Comment below.

“In the last 5 years God blessed me with an opportunity to live a dream I've had since a kid!” the caption read.

“During this time I've been able to make brothers for life and memories I'm certain I'll never forget.

“I would like to thank everyone involved at Arsenal for the amazing journey and learning experiences I've had to make me into the player I am today and especially my family who have been there for me every single step of the way!

“But now the time has come for me to move on in my career and start a new chapter.

“I will always have love for this club the same way I did when I was growing up! All the best in the future! Once a gooner! #AFC #GodsPlan.”

Wright, who won the Premier League and two FA Cups with Arsenal during a seven-year spell has responded to that message.

In reply to Medley’s post, Wright wrote “All the best Zech,” as well as including three love heart emojis.

Medley has also stated that he hopes to use Oostende as a stepping stone and a way to relaunch his career.

“I am happy that the deal with KVO has been settled,” Medley told the Belgian club’s website.

“The Belgian league has evolved enormously in recent seasons and it is a stepping stone to the bigger leagues. Just look at Jack Hendry relaunching his career here.

“I sign a contract for four seasons here, which is a clear sign of confidence from the KVO board. I’m looking forward to getting to know my teammates and playing my first game as soon as possible.”
