Ian Wright's two-word verdict on Arsenal's European Super League announcement

Ian Wright has issued a scathing verdict on Arsenal's European Super League announcement.

On Sunday night it was confirmed that the Gunners are one of 11 founding members of a new breakaway competition that could begin as early as next season.

A statement on Arsenal.com reads: "We have joined 11 European clubs as founding members of a new midweek competition, the European Super League.

"There’s lots more to do to bring the competition to life and we will continue to update our supporters as things progress.

"Twelve of Europe’s leading football clubs have today come together to announce they have agreed to establish a new mid-week competition, the Super League, governed by its Founding Clubs.

"AC Milan, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined as Founding Clubs.

"It is anticipated that a further three clubs will join ahead of the inaugural season, which is intended to commence as soon as practicable.

"Going forward, the Founding Clubs look forward to holding discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new League and for football as a whole."

This move has been heavily criticised by many in the media, with Manchester United legend Gary Neville calling for the Premier League teams involved to be punished.

And it's clear that Ian Wright is not happy with his former club.

Taking to social media, the Gunners legend issued a two-word verdict.

"Absolutely shameful," he wrote on Twitter.

The post was accompanied with a GIF that reads: "Remember who you are, what you are, and who you represent.

"That's what Arsenal's about."

Strong words from Wright as many in the football world continue to react to the announcement.
