Ian Wright's message to Arsenal over Mikel Arteta they should have listened to in 2018

Ian Wright believes Mikel Arteta can be the man to get the best out of Arsenal's players, as he did back in 2018.

The former Arsenal midfielder is expected to be appointed as the permanent successor to Unai Emery, after members of the Gunners' hierarchy met with the Spaniard earlier this week to discuss the job.

Arteta was still in the dugout with Pep Guardiola as Manchester City defeated Oxford United in the Carabao Cup last night (Wednesday), with the City boss stating after the game that he had no news over his assistant and a return to Arsenal.

However, Arsenal legend Wright has urged his old club to "get it done" on social media, with the former Gunners striker referring to his comments about Arteta back in 2018, when he was considered as a candidate to replace Arsene Wenger in north London.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's philosophy when he joined as a player

“I quite like the feel of Mikel Arteta," Wright said, speaking on Match of the Day in May 2018, before Unai Emery was appointed by Arsenal as the successor to Arsene Wenger.

“You have got to take a chance on people. They took a chance on [Arsene] Wenger and I think he is somebody who knows the club, he has been under Pep [Guardiola] for a couple of years and he has seen what he has been doing.

“I think those players need a bit of a kick up the backside and I think he might be the man to do it.”

And now, Wright has posted the following message on Twitter: "Same energy 2019. Get it done."
