Ian Wright's Instagram plea to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Europa League heartbreak

Ian Wright has pleaded with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to extend his Arsenal stay after the Gunners suffered Europa League heartbreak on Thursday night.

Arsenal were 1-0 down after 90 minutes to Olympiakos, forcing extra-time, where top-scorer Aubameyang struck to equalise - a result which would have seen the Londoners progress.

But Olympiakos scored again late on to seal their passage into the last 16 on away goals, with Aubameyang spurning a golden opportunity to level for the second time in the dying seconds.

Aubameyang was on the verge of tears at the final whistle, which prompted Gunners legend Wright to send him a message on Instagram .

Replying to Aubameyang's post, Wright wrote: "We love you!!! This club loves you. Our fans love you. Forget about last night.

"If you weren’t here with all due respect to the rest of our team we’d be in deep trouble.

"For you to score the amount of goals you are scoring whilst doing all that defending is just incredible!!!

"(Please stay and sign the ting)."

Aubameyang's current deal runs out at the end of next season and - if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League - the striker appears likely to leave for pastures new in the summer.

He has 17 league goals so far this term, level with Leicester's Jamie Vardy at the top of the scoring charts, and Barcelona are said to be heading the queue for his services.

After the Olympiakos game, Aubameyang wrote on Instagram: "I woke up this morning praying as usual and I thank God for what he gave me. An incredible family and you fans are part of it.

"Thanks for all the messages and the love I received yesterday. Football is great even if it gives you strange emotions.

"But I take it as a lesson and keep my head up, the season’s not over yet, we’ll fight as a team to the end."
