Ian Wright reveals how Paulo Dybala forced Man Utd to pull out of transfer

Ian Wright has claimed that Paulo Dybala forced Man Utd to pull out of a transfer for him on purpose.

The Juventus forward was in talks with United over a possible switch prior to the transfer deadline, but the Red Devils withdrew from negotiations after questioning Dybala's desire to play for them.

Tottenham were also linked with a move for the 25-year-old but demands over his salary and image rights inevitably caused discussions with both clubs to break down - something Wright feels Dybala sabotaged himself.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Wright said: "I think Manchester United would never have a problem attracting people once they want them.

"I think Paulo Dybala didn’t want to come here and the demand was just to make sure he didn’t want to come here."

United were hopeful of including Dybala in a swap deal with former forward Romelu Lukaku, who has since joined Inter Milan.

Juventus were interested in signing Lukaku, but he was eventually offloaded to their Serie A rivals for £73 million.

Dybala reportedly requested an annual salary of £18m over a five-year contract, meaning United would have had to shell out over £100m once agents fees had been accounted for.

And Wright feels United missing out on the Argentine could be a blessing in disguise.

He added: "I don’t see Paulo Dybala as being the guy at Man United.

"Getting Paulo Dybala in a makeweight thing for Lukaku, I’m not sure, I don’t think he would’ve been good at United.

"I think he asked for that kind of money simply because he knew he wouldn’t get it."

United have now been faced with a fresh transfer issue, as Paul Pogba refused to rule out a move away.

The French midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Juventus all summer, and admitted recently that he still holds a desire for a new challenge.

“This question mark remains,” said Pogba. “Obviously there have been things said, but only time will tell.”
