Ian Wright perfectly sums up Roberto Firmino's importance to Liverpool after Aston Villa win

Ian Wright believes Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is irreplaceable in Jurgen Klopp’s side after making an impact from the bench against Aston Villa.

The Reds were struggling to break Villa down at Anfield when Firmino, Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson were all introduced.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock on 70 minutes - just 10 minutes after the triple substitution - and Firmino played a big but unseen part in the goal.

Arsenal legend Wright didn’t miss it, though, and highlighted the Brazilian’s clever movements in the lead up to Mane’s goal which allowed more space for his team-mates.

Firmino’s movement allowed the ball to be played into Naby Keita inside the box, before the Reds’ number nine created even more space for Mane, who smashed the ball past Pepe Reina.

“The team is used to him. The team knows what he’s about. The positions he takes up, they’re clever," Wright said told Premier League Productions.

“Even this one, you could say Villa could’ve got tighter, but his movement there opens up a little space for Naby Keita to get the time, and his movement in the box takes the defender away so Sadio Mane can score the goal.

“It’s just clever little movements. He’s so good. What he does is so important to what Liverpool do. When he’s not playing, it’s so noticeable. No-one else can do what he does.”

Youngster Curtis Jones then celebrated signing a new long-term contract by volleying home his first Premier League goal to seal all three points for his side.

Liverpool now have 89 points from 33 games and can still break Manchester City's top-flight record of 100 points in a season with five matches remaining.
