Ian Wright names the Tottenhan legend who had a massive impact on his Arsenal career

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has explained how watching videos of Brazilian legend Romario taught him to finish "beautifully".

The Gunners striker scored over 180 goals during his career and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers to have played the game in England.

Just behind Thierry Henry, Wright is Arsenal's second-highest ever goalscorer with 185 to his name in the red shirt.

A predatory finisher, who built his game on playing on the last shoulder, Wright has explained how the influence of his school teacher aged seven taught him how to finish.

The BBC pundit also revealed how watching videos of Brazilian legend Romario and Tottenham Hotspur hero Jimmy Greaves helped his master the art of finishing as he grew older.

Speaking on The Last Word with Stan Collymore podcast, Wright said: "When I was seven, my teacher Mr Pigden said 'don't score goals, Ian, where the goalkeeper is close to it, score goals where he can't move'.

"My favourite was always to chip the goalkeeper to catch him off guard, so he doesn't move. That's what my teacher told me when I was seven and I was just starting.

"I used to get close to the goal and literally try to get the power of my whole body to get it through the goalkeeper and make a hole in him.

"That was the first time I heard of Jimmy Greaves. Back in 1971, my teacher was telling me 'Jimmy Greaves he passes it into the goal, sometimes it doesn't even touch the net, he passes it, those are the good goals to score'.

"So that's what I always thought about when I was trying to finish. How can you finish beautifully?

"When we used to watch Romario, toe-poking and the way he finished, it was just effortless.

"Finishing is artistic, it's an artistic expression."
