Ian Wright names the player Jose Mourinho should start to give Tottenham a spark

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho should give young striker Troy Parrott more of a chance, in the absence of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Spurs have been playing without a recognised striker in recent weeks, with Kane sidelined with a hamstring injury and Son ruled out after fracturing his arm in the 3-2 win against Aston Villa last month.

Mourinho has had the option to play teenager Parrott, who made his Premier League debut for Spurs earlier this season in the 5-0 win against Burnley, shortly after the Portuguese head coach took charge in north London.

But he has had to wait until today for his second opportunity in the top flight.

Tottenham 2-3 Wolves: Jose Mourinho press conference

Even then, Parrott only came off the bench late on in the 3-2 defeat against Wolves, much to the frustration of some Spurs fans amid ironic jeers for Mourinho's decision.

After the game, Mourinho said that Parrott was not yet ready to play in the Premier League on a regular basis, but Wright believes the Tottenham boss should give him a chance.

“You are looking for a spark," he said, speaking on Match of the Day 2.

“They need a striker, they have got a young guy there, and you might as well throw him in and see if he is going to be able to help you out in this situation.

“He might do a [Marcus] Rashford, do a Harry Kane, nick a couple of goals and before you know it, there’s a different style of play, because a couple of times today they had no-one up there.

“Dele Alli was trying to get there, Lucas Moura was trying to get there, but it slowed the play up a bit, just have a look at Troy Parrott, man.

"Put Parrott in. I don’t know what three minutes is going to do for him. Give him 20 minutes, see what he can do.

“He only got three minutes, I was gutted for him."
