Ian Wright has revisited Mikel Arteta’s strange comments after Arsenal beat Norwich in early September.
The 1-0 win gave the Gunners their first Premier League victory of the season following three consecutive defeats to start the season.
It was the first game after the August international break, and one that Arsenal desperately needed to win as they were sitting bottom of the Premier League.
After the game, Arteta claimed that the previous fortnight had been the best spell of his managerial career, which seemed strange at the time.
"We are really happy. We knew it was a really tricky game and we got what we wanted, which was to win the match and to get points on the table,” Arteta told the BBC, via Eurosport.
“We had to suffer but I knew to win the game it would be like this.
"After three defeats things get complicated. I must say it has been the best 10 or 14 days in my professional career. Not the easiest, but the best. You learn a lot in difficult moments, who you are with.
"In difficult moments when you see the people and the level of organisation and the fans we have. They were ready to suffer today but they just give, give, give to the team. Today and the last week everything gilded together.
"We have to improve a lot of things but today we made seven changes and already it looked different."
Although the comments were certainly bizarre on the surface, Arsenal legend, Wright, thinks that they now make sense.
When asked whether the comments were bizarre by his co-host on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: “It was Flo, it was, but now you look back at it. There’s no European football, he’s had all that time to work with them, he’s got the players he wants to work with.
“There’s six signings, his six signings all finished the game and the five players he re-signed finished the game. You have to think about the squad depth, but I’m feeling that there has been some sort of moment.”
Things are looking a lot better for Arteta now that he has won four games in a row in all competitions, and the Spaniard will be hoping that his side continue that good form on Saturday with a win against Brighton.
