Ian Wright makes huge claim on big Arsenal summer transfers as Edu meeting is revealed

Arsenal icon Ian Wright has claimed that sporting director Edu Gaspar is "very confident" in signing quality players in the upcoming summer transfer window. It comes as the Gunners look to take further steps in closing the gap to Manchester City, while adding depth to the side.

The current squad have put up a valiant fight for the Premier League title that isn't over yet, but isn't in their hands going into the final few weeks. It has shown some of the weaknesses that need to be addressed, while confirmation of qualification to the Champions League next year shows the requirement for further depth.

Edu has already put the groundwork in place though as he told football.london in March: "It’s already started because you know what’s happening in the market everybody is doing stuff," the Brazilian said. "You have to plan with people as well just to be prepared so when you go again in the summer you are very prepared."

While there are questions over whether the Gunners will be able to strengthen as they would wish to, Wright has explained that there is confidence after a meeting with Edu. He told Alan Shearer as part of an Athletic article: "I went to the training ground the other day and I was with Edu and Mikel, and what’s happening now at the club is we’re not having to go out and cajole other people to come and join Arsenal.

“They can see what we’re doing. Edu is saying his phone is ringing off the hook and they’re very confident about the calibre of player they’re going to sign. If you’re going to challenge this City team, you’re going to have to come correct.”

It remains to be seen which players are likely to join, though football.london understands that West Ham captain Declan Rice is a top target, with Brighton's Moises Caicedo also considered. Reports elsewhere have also stated that Chelsea's Mason Mount is a potential option too as the Gunners look to continue taking steps forward in their project.
