Ian Wright makes exciting Darwin Nunez prediction after dismissing Liverpool 'worry' claim

Ian Wright believes Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez could "explode" next season after his introductory campaign in the Premier League.

Nunez, who made the move from Benfica last summer for an initial £64m, has come in for criticism at times this season for the chances he has missed.

However, the Uruguayan has still managed to score nine goals in the league while assisting three more despite being in and out of the starting line-up.

Nunez started in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday evening and could have added to his tally when presented with a chance by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first half. It took a single Mohamed Salah goal for the Reds to make it six wins on the spin.

Wright spoke on Match of the Day about whether Nunez, who has scored just once in his last 11 appearances, could turn it around next season. The Arsenal legend said: “Absolutely, especially when you see the chances that he is getting, the chances he is missing.

“Next season he will liven himself up, get more intense in respects of his goalscoring, and then he will finish those. I am not worried for him.”

Wright added: “Unbelievable numbers.”
