Ian Wright is certain Timo Werner and his Chelsea teammates are going to be a "real problem" for the Premier League, provided they can cut out their defensive mistakes.
Werner starred as Chelsea were held to a frustrating 3-3 draw with Southampton at Stamford Bridge, with sloppy defending and another error-strewn display from goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga costing Frank Lampard's side the victory.
Werner had put Chelsea two to the good at the Bridge – his first goals in the Premier League since his summer move from RB Leipzig – to end a frustrating four-game run without a league goal.
Speaking on Match Of The Day, Arsenal legend Wright is confident they will be the first of many for the Germany international.
"When I've watched him he doesn't look too fussed about the fact he hasn't scored," Wright said. "You saw him there talking about how he hadn't scored in four, but it's the movement and the runs he's making.
"The fact that he, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz seem to have something happening, we can see it starting.
"This one (offside goal) he was a little bit eager, I thought he could have maybe taken his time and had a look at the defender, but this (his first goal) is all his own work. He's had a little look at the defender who has totally over-committed himself and bang.
"Once he gets into this situation you can almost feel like he's not even thinking to do anything else other than get that half a yard to get the shot. He does it and scores his first goal."
Wright believes Werner finding his scoring touch is the beginning of good things for Lampard and Chelsea, provided they can tidy up their defending.
"Once Chelsea can get it all going, get the midfield to continue with the intensity that they have to put on these teams then I think they are going to cause problems," Wright continued.
"Like I said, I never worry about someone like him (Werner) not getting his goals and in the end he sets up his teammate Kai Havertz.
"Once they get it going they are going to be a real problem, but they are going to have to cut out the mistakes because going forward they look really dangerous."
