Ian Wright makes admission about Manchester United ace Paul Pogba and questions Graeme Souness

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has waxed lyrical about Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba following his outstanding performance against Leeds United on Saturday lunchtime.

The France international, who is now into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, claimed four assists to help the Reds cruise their way to an emphatic 5-1 opening day victory.

Pogba was a class above almost everyone else on the pitch and produced the type of performance that has been expected of him on a regular basis so frequently.

Whilst Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness refused to praise Pogba for his performance, despite racking up a quartet of assists, Wright was full of praise for the Frenchman, insisting that he doesn't think he had ever seen him produce a performance of such a high standard, as well as hitting back at Souness.

"I believe that Pogba, if that’s his levels, this place [Old Trafford] is in for a treat,” Wright said, speaking on Wrighty's House podcast.

"Graeme Souness cannot contain himself. For him to say ‘why can’t Pogba do that every week?’ No one can do that every week.

"But at the same time, you watch Pogba on a weekly basis, he does enough, for me, in every game to influence a game majorly.

"He was just roaming. Go and play. He’s in his sixth season. Let’s be totally honest, I don’t think I’ve seen him that good."

Whilst Wright was in awe of Pogba's display against Leeds, which helped United ensure they would finish the first weekend of the Premier League season sitting pretty at the top of the pile, Souness, as outlined above, was not as impressed, refusing to send praise in the former Juventus midfielder's direction.

Souness, speaking on Sky Sports, said: "We expect that [four assists] from a £100million man.

"I was going to get round to the point that they have spent £70million on [Jadon] Sancho.

"Maybe that might be something they look back on and think 'did we need to spend that money?'. Because that boy [Mason Greenwood], is a player, he's a finisher.

"I think he's going to be a top player."
