Ian Wright likens I'm A Celeb to playing under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal

Ian Wright has compared his diet in the jungle to that while playing under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal .

Wright is the latest football star to try his luck on ITV show I'm A Celebrty...Get Me Out Of Here.

The 56-year-old and some of his campmates have been forced to live off basic rations of rice and beans during their first week down under.

And Wright has compared it to when Wenger arrived in north London in 1996.

"I don't think it has been five days yet and I am really struggling with eating," Wright said, sparking fears he may end up quitting the show.

"When Arsene Wenger first came to Arsenal, we literally changed from eating what we wanted to literally bland, I'm talking bland, food - almost similar.

"It's almost taken me back to remembering how bland the food was."

After arriving in north London, Wenger immediately changed the drinking culture at the club - alongside drastic diet changes.

The Frenchman implemented a chocolate ban and ordered the club canteen to serve fish, chicken and steamed vegetables - rather than the favourite dishes like burgers and chips.

Wenger previously admitted: “I changed a few habits of the players, which isn’t easy in a team with an average age of 30 years – at the first match the players were chanting, ‘We want our Mars bars

“I think in England you eat too much sugar and meat and not enough vegetables.”

Footballer-turned pundit Wright is among the favourites to win this year's show.

His first episode on the programme was watched by fellow pundits Glenn Hoddle, Lee Dixon and Roy Keane earlier this week.
