Ian Wright identifies the key Mikel Arteta decision that has boosted Arsenal

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hailed Mikel Arteta for the decision to hire Andreas Georgson as a set-piece coach at the club last summer.

The Gunners have endured a transitional season once again but secured a fine victory over Leicester City on Sunday, providing a boost to their hopes of securing European football next year.

David Luiz's equaliser against the Foxes was singled out by Wright specifically, with the Brazilian heading home a free-kick from his compatriot Willian.

The goal was a well executed routine straight from the training ground, displaying the benefits of Georgson's arrival at the club prior to the start of the campaign.

The Swiss coach moved to Arsenal from Brentford, tasked with improving a side who had struggled to be effective from set-pieces at both ends of the field, and Wright has been pleased with his input.

"It’s no secret Arsenal have a set piece coach. When you look at how that [Luiz’s goal] was worked, it was worked brilliantly," he told Premier League Productions.

"You can see that Lacazette was there to clear out the space and pin their best header of the ball which is Jonny Evans.

‘And that is the space where you see David Luiz definitely waiting for the space to be cleared. The ball has to be pinpoint and it’s fantastic. That’s why you get a set piece coach, to get those things working on the training pitch."

Arsenal's victory over Leicester has provided a timely boost ahead of the final months of the season, as the Gunners look to make up a significant deficit to secure their spot in Europe next season.

Arteta's side currently lie eight-points adrift of the top-four and Europa League glory is their most likely route back into the Champions League.
