Ian Wright highlights big mistake Unai Emery made in defeat against Everton

Ian Wright believes Unai Emery made a mistake with his team selection in Arsenal's defeat by Everton .

The Gunners boss named a strong side to take on the Toffees at Goodison Park but opted to leave both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey on the bench.

The duo came on later in the game, and offered Arsenal more in attack, but it was too little to late and the away side lost the match at a very crucial time in the season.

Wright has praised Emery's first campaign in north London, but he was critical of the Spaniard opting against starting Aubameyang on Monday and taking the game to Everton from the start.

"I was a little bit disappointed with Arsenal's selection," said former Arsenal star Wright on Match of the Day 2.

"They're in fourth position, no-one would have thought at the start of the season that it would have happened like it has.

Sokratis tells Arsenal teammates how many more points they need to make top four

"So it was an opportunity to start Aubameyang, start Lacazette, get Ozil on the pitch, start with Ramsey – get your best players on the pitch and really have a go at Everton.

"I thought we missed a trick in that respect. In the end, Everton had the impetus… I think it was fortunate that they didn't get another goal."
