Ian Wright has told Arsenal why they should seal £31.5m transfer for Dusan Vlahovic alternative

Arsenal hero Ian Wright has previously labelled Alvaro Morata as ‘brilliant’ amid reports that the Gunners have been offered his services.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add to his forward options for the remainder of the January transfer window as Arsenal aim to continue their pursuit of an unlikely place in the Champions League for next term.

They were hotly pursuing Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic - who has now signed a deal with Serie A giants Juventus.

Amid that disappointment, there appears to be a few other options on the Gunners’ shortlist, including the likes of Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Real Sociedad and Everton, respectively.

One surprise name that has been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window is that of former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.

According to The Times, the Gunners have been offered the Spanish international’s services with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being linked with a move away.

Whether that comes directly from his current employers Juventus - or indeed his representatives - remains to be seen.

It is also hard to measure whether Arsenal would be tempted by the prospect of signing Morata but one man who would be a huge fan of his arrival is Ian Wright.

Speaking after the forward had netted a hat-trick for Chelsea against Stoke City back in 2017, the Gunners icon said: “His second goal when he ran the Stoke defence and finished it like he did – that made me say, ‘Woah!’.

“What are we looking at here! He looks brilliant.”

Of course, Morata could not continue his promising start to life at Stamford Bridge as he netted just another 10 Premier League goals after the treble against Stoke.

He was only a Chelsea player for a season-and-a-half ahead of a move to Atletico Madrid before then sealing a loan move back to former club Juventus ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The 29-year-old scored 20 goals in his first season back in Turin and has followed that up with eight this term.

Morata has also been linked with a move to Barcelona this window and is valued at £31.5million by Transfermarkt.
