Ian Wright furious with "totally unprofessional" Nicolas Pepe after Arsenal red card

Ian Wright has laid into Nicolas Pepe following his "totally unprofessional" red card during Arsena's draw with Leeds.

The Gunners managed to escape Elland Road with a share of the spoils on Sunday despite being reduced to 10 men just minutes into the second half.

Pepe became embroiled in an ongoing tussle with Leeds' Ezgjan Alioski, which eventually ended with the Arsenal forward headbutting his opponent.

After a quick VAR review, Pepe was promptly given his marching orders by referee Anthony Taylor, with Wright later putting the boot in on the £72million signing.

"I’m not saying that it’s a proper full-on headbutt but you can’t do that to people in this day and age," Wright told Premier League Productions .

"You can’t get into people’s faces like that.

"Alioski has gone down like he’s really got a proper headbutt but at the same time that’s just totally unprofessional and just poor from him."

Mikel Arteta tweaked his regular starting lineup to include Pepe following the winger's recent comments over a lack of playing time.

Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was moved inside to a central role and Willian shifted over to the left, allowing Pepe a chance to impress on the right.

But he ended the day Arsenal's villain as he left his teammates to battle their way to a hard-earned 0-0 draw, with Wright now questioning what's next for the Ivorian.

"From somebody that has been complaining about not getting enough game time, somebody that has now got his chance and he’s let everybody down," Wright continued.

"He has let everybody down and i’m very disappointed in him simply because I don’t know who his team is around him but he’s come to the club, we’ve spent a lot of money on him.

"He’s someone that we have a lot of faith in and he seems to me that he’s not getting better, he's actually getting more in himself and more frustrated, where you want to see him improving. He needs better advice around him."
