Ian Wright explains why Frank Lampard is right to choose Tammy Abraham over Olivier Giroud

Frank Lampard has made the right choice to play Tammy Abraham up front for Chelsea.

The young England striker started against Manchester Untied on the opening day of the season, before being benched for the second match - the draw with Leicester - when Olivier Giroud got the nod.

Abraham regained his starting spot for the trip to Norwich City on Saturday lunchtime and he repaid Frank Lampard's faith in him by scoring his first two Premier League goals.

Abraham opened the scoring early on at Carrow Road and finished it too, with the winning goal.

And he got all the plaudits on Match of the Day on Saturday night, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright explaining just why he is the right man up front for Chelsea over Giroud.

He said: "He is somebody who has been around but it’s been a long way to get to the Chelsea first team. That number nine shirt is very heavy and we’ve seen that with some of the strikers in years but the faith his manager has shown in him, he repaid that today.

"A lot of people were talking about the hold up play and that Giroud should be playing because he’s not getting the play with him but he did that brilliantly today. His first goal was brilliant, composed, kept it down, it was perfect.

"He can come towards the play and he can go long, that’s something Giroud doesn’t give them. Some of the stuff Tammy does, Giroud can’t do. As long as his confidence stays up, he’ll score goals."
