Ian Wright explains key difference that will help Jesse Lingard ahead of West Ham move

The freedom provided by West Ham can help Jesse Lingard rediscover his best form according to Ian Wright.

Manchester United are set to sanction the loan departure of the 28-year-old who has struggled for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lingard was initially a big hit when the Norwegian arrived at Old Trafford but has seen his performance levels tail off.

Wright has cited the pressure that comes with playing for the Red Devils as a huge challenge for a player who is struggling for form.

Lingard has only played three times this term, with none of those outings coming in the league.

The Hammers have risen impressively up the table and Lingard has been urged to get the fans onside.

"I cannot stress enough how hard it is to get through that academy," he said on the Wrighty’s House Podcast.

"If it is West Ham then he’s going into a team that is playing with a lot of confidence. He’s going to play for a West Ham, you do a couple of things right there and those fans are fantastic.

"I only went there for a little while, but they see that you’re committed then you’re in. I can’t wait to see him play without the pressure of United on his shoulders.

"28 in football, especially for him, he’s not injury-prone, we’re talking about someone who’s very fit.

"The only thing that is missing from Jesse Lingard to get back to where he was, is confidence.

"Love him again, so we can see him dancing, doing his thing. A lot of what Jesse gets negativity coming towards him for… he’s got what Paul Pogba’s got.

"They’ve got a vibe, they’ve got swag, they’ve got sauce."

Lingard has rejected advances from Newcastle and West Brom to head to the London Stadium.
