Ian Wright consoled as he slams 'embarrassing' Arsenal after Man City massacre

Arsenal legend Ian Wright had to be consoled by Shaun Wright-Phillips during half-time of the Gunners' eventual 5-0 massacre against Man City.

Wright, 57, had to witness this spineless north London outfit fall apart in the Manchester sun on Saturday afternoon.

Granit Xhaka's red card, coupled with the abysmal defending seen on all the goals scored by the champions, demonstrated the poor state that is universal across the club at this current moment.

And the usual positive Arsenal legend had seen enough at half-time to conclude that the north Londoners are in a real mess at this current moment with the International break looming, before footage showed Wright-Phillips walk over and give a hug and kiss on Wright's forward.

Wright said on the Optus Sport feed, via talkSPORT: “This is really embarrassing, this is really embarrassing. I don’t know what his game plan is.

“Looking at the defence, it is a disasterclass. Between Cedric, Rob Holding, Sead Kolasinac, they’re all over the place. The pressing funnily enough, at the start, wasn’t bad.

“But other than that, the organisation is absolutely abysmal.”

He added: “Cedric is meant to be an experienced player. He’s been an absolute joke in this game. Him, Kolasinac, and then Granit Xhaka being sent off. Our experienced players have really let us down in this game…

“Crazy. You don’t need to tackle like that against anybody, it’s a terrible challenge.

“But when you’re 2-0 down against City, you need someone like Xhaka, who’s an experienced player, to be calm. That challenge is a dangerous challenge. He had to go…

“Arsenal fans around the world must be absolutely devastated.”

The feeling of embarrassment and devastation was shared by fellow legend Martin Keown, who also delivered his damning verdict of what he saw from Mikel Arteta's team on the Eithad Stadium pitch.

He told BT Sport: "I feel numb. I wouldn’t say embarrassed but it’s becoming a little bit embarrassing. I think after you lose the first game against Brentford, you know you’ve got Chelsea and Manchester City to follow.

"The game against Norwich is a huge game. Norwich play Leicester and they will want to win that to get out of the bottom three, but you could be looking at the two bottom sides.

"It’ll be a massive game and tactically every time they set up, they seem very naive."
