Ian Wright backs Chelsea to sign Man Utd target and makes surprise Romelu Lukaku call

Ian Wright has backed Napoli goal machine Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea this summer.

The Nigerian is set to become one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers once the season finishes after guiding Gli Azzurri to their first Serie A title in 30 years. An impressive 23 goals in 28 games makes Osimhen the division’s top goalscorer and has heavyweights from across the continent purring.

It is no secret that Chelsea are on the hunt for a striker in the transfer market. Despite splashing around £600million since Todd Boehly’s arrival, the Blues have scored just 34 Premier League goals - the fourth-lowest in the division.

Stamford Bridge is brimming with creative midfielders and widemen but nobody is capable of sticking the ball in the net regularly. A hefty £100million price tag means few clubs can afford Osimhen but, speaking on his Ringer FC podcast, Arsenal legend Wright believes Chelsea can land their man.

“We’ve got to give him flowers man, we’ve got to,” he said. “I wonder where he’s going to end up? It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Chelsea. Chelsea are going to try and get him I think.”

However, the ex-Gunner also suggested Romelu Lukaku could stage a remarkable comeback to save Boehly and Co a few pennies. Reports have suggested Mauricio Pochettino would offer the 29-year-old a lifeline should he become the new Blues boss.

“He’s got unfinished business here, he’s got massive unfinished business here,” Wright added. “If I was him, I would love to know I’m going back there and I can shut a few people up. He’s got to do that. He owes it to himself to try.”
