Ian Wright and Kalvin Phillips send £24m Arsenal ace message after Burnley display

Aaron Ramsdale had plenty of doubters when he completed a transfer to Arsenal in the summer.

The former England Under-21 international signed for a reported £24m transfer from Sheffield United last month, a fee that raised plenty of eyebrows.

However, the 23-year-old has exceeded expectations so far, keeping a clean sheet in all three of his outings in an Arsenal shirt.

His most recent appearance for the Gunners came on Saturday as he starred in a 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, securing the north London club their first league away win of the campaign.

Ramsdale demonstrated excellent distribution skills whilst also making three saves to keep the Claret strikers at bay, as former Gunners striker Ian Wright took to social media to praise him.

"Brilliant today Aaron", Wright's Instagram read, accompanied by five heart emojis.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips was also supportive of his compatriot, commenting: "Oh my baggy eyes go on son."

Ramsdale started ahead of German international Bernd Leno for the second successive game, with Leno dropped to the substitute bench after playing during the 5-0 thrashing against Manchester City last month.

It’s the same in every position," head coach Mikel Arteta revealed when asked about dropping the 29-year-old. "We want them to make each other better. We are competing against the opponent, we are not competing against each other here.

"We are just trying to bring players that can raise the level of the player that is playing the position, the level of the team, the level of the club. This is the only reason.

"Obviously for Bernd it wasn’t a pleasing communication when I told him that he wasn’t playing. But he’s a top professional and a top person.

"He should be disappointed and he should support his teammates like they all have with him every time he’s played. That’s exactly what he’s done."
