Ian Wright and Jermaine Jenas have a warning for Harry Kane after penalty appeal against Arsenal

Jermaine Jenas believes Harry Kane "needs to be careful" after the Spurs striker had a penalty appeal turned down late on against Arsenal.

The Tottenham forward went down in the box under a challenge from Arsenal defender Sokratis in the latter stages of the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium, with referee Martin Atkinson waving away appeals from the visitors for a penalty.

And former Tottenham midfielder Jenas noted that there were similarities between the situation and an incident in Spurs' 1-0 defeat at home against Newcastle United last weekend, when Kane went down in the box under a challenge from Jamaal Lascelles.

"In this sort of situation, I try to put myself in the defender’s position, and I would be fuming if he had got a penalty here," Jenas said, speaking as a pundit on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

"Is he known for diving? I would say no. But what I would say is last week, he had a similar one with Jamaal Lascelles.

"I think he is waiting for the contact and he is throwing his body into Sokratis here,  similar to the one with Jamaal Lascelles, and it is not working, so I think he needs to be careful."

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright said it didn't look like Kane was trying to stay on his feet in the incident towards the end of the game in north London.

"You don’t want to accuse someone of being a diver," he said, also speaking on Match of the Day 2.

"But if you look at this, the ball is going to the left and he is almost going in towards him with his body to initiate contact, and Harry goes down. I don’t want to call him a diver, but it doesn't look like he is trying to stay on his feet there."
