Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright believes out-of-contract Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero should choose Chelsea as his next club this summer.
The Argentine, who has established himself as one of the Premier League's greatest strikers of all-time, is poised to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, bringing his ten-year stay in Manchester to an end.
Unsurprisingly, the 32-year-old, who has scored four goals in all competitions this season, is already being linked with a whole host of clubs, including Chelsea.
The Blues, who splashed out around £50million on luring Timo Werner to Stamford Bridge last summer, are set to prioritise adding a new striker to their ranks this summer, with Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland at the very top of their wish list. However, after Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed earlier this week that the Norwegian will be remaining at the Bundesliga giants next season, Chelsea may be forced to look elsewhere.
Should Chelsea's search for a striker be directed away from Haaland, Aguero could be a suitable choice for a variety of reasons, potentially none more so that they can sign him on a free transfer.
And for former Arsenal ace Wright, Aguero would be a big success at Stamford Bridge.
Wright told Ringer FC's Wrighty's House podcast: "Can I throw something out there? He should go to Chelsea.
"When you look at Edinson Cavani and the pace of the guys behind him, you look at Luis Suarez at Atleti, the pace and everything they’ve got around him.
"Can you imagine Aguero up top for Chelsea with Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, all those guys, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi, [Christian] Pulisic around him, that’s 25 goals.
"Me, if I’m Chelsea and I can get him for free, I’m going in. I’ve fabricated this all in my head that he’s vexed with Pep [Guardiola] and it’s the kind of thing where he’ll say, 'Yes, I’m going to go to Chelsea.'"
Wright's verdict on urging Chelsea to make a move for Aguero this summer is identical to that of fellow former England international Rio Ferdinand.
"I think he stays in the Premier League," Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube show. "If I’m Chelsea I take him now. If I’m Chelsea I go and get him… quick!"
"If I’m them, I go and get Aguero if I can’t get a Haaland or someone like that."
Should Chelsea give up in their quest to sign Haaland, Aguero could be the perfect alternative, given that the other strikers being linked with moves to Stamford Bridge are Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku.
Both Kane and Lukaku would almost certainly cost Chelsea more than £100million, meaning making a move for Aguero would be a far cheaper solution, freeing up funds for Thomas Tuchel to bolster other areas of his team.
