Ian Wright admits he didn't always like Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer

Arsenal legend Ian Wright admits that battling alongside Alan Shearer to be the Premier League's best striker was not a pleasant experience.

While the pair - who regularly work on Match of the day together - are good friends now, Wright took to social media to reveal his thoughts on the Newcastle United during their playing days.

During a tour of Classic Football Shirts' warehouse, Wright picked up the famous Toon shirt of 1996-97 with Shearer's name and the No 9 on the back.

Asked about his relationship with the Premier League's all time record goalscorer, Wright said: "He's my friend now but when we were playing - I hated him!

"Simply because of his sheer hunger to score goals on a weekly basis.

"You would come in, you would score two - Shearer scores three."

Shearer ended up with 260 Premier League goals while Wright, who also turned out for West Ham in the top flight, netted 113 goals.
