Ian Rapoport: Washington will name Case Keenum the starting QB

There is still no official word from the Washington Redskins — though Jay Gruden expects an anouncement later this week — but the feeling around the NFL is that Case Keenum will be named the starting quaterback for the first game of the season.

Keenum and rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins have been battling it out through the summer months and into training camp, and neither has made a huge impact on their depth chart status. That is not to say that either have disappointed, but rather that neither have created much seperation in the contest.

Coming into the 2019 year, it was expected that Keenum would eventually be named the starter due to his years of experience playing in the NFL. Now, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Washington is largely going to make a decision based on that experience, though they love what they have in Haskins.

Of course, nothing is official until the team puts out the word, but you can feel confident that Rapoport has a good measure of the pulse in Washington. This was expected, and it will soon be cemented. Come Week 1, it’s all but set in stone that Keenum will be the starting QB for the Redskins.
