Emergency services are currently dealing with a fire at an apartment block in Edinburgh.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed they are currently in attendance at the scene on Simpson's Loan, near the Meadows.
Crime writer Ian Rankin shared a photo of the scene shortly before 2:30pm, which shows at least one fire appliance at the scene.
Writing to his followers on Twitter, the Rebus author said there had been a fire in his block of flats and that he had taken refuge in a neighbouring building.
While many commented "stay safe", one man asked: "Hope all safe sir but the question must be asked: what one thing did you bring with you while you scooted?"
Like the true legendary Edinburgh writer he is, Ian Rankin revealed he grabbed his "laptop and notes for next book."
The author reassured fans that he is now safely back in his apartment after what appears to have been a balcony fire.
He also commended the fire service who he said were "totally on it".
