Much-loved Edinburgh author Ian Rankin celebrated his birthday exactly how you would expect - at The Oxford Bar.
The New Town pub, on Young Street, is famously a favourite haunt of the author and featured in his Inspector Rebus novels.
So, lockdown or no lockdown, it was only natural that the author headed there on his birthday for a cold one, improvising with a can and glass of his own while the pub remains temporarily shut amid lockdown.
Snapping a selfie and a picture of his frankly glorious-looking pint outside the pub, Ian Rankin shared: "Enjoying a birthday pint @TheOxfordBar1!"
He also revealed he was planning on devouring a "fried fish for dinner" last night but admitted it was "not quite the same" as a fish supper from his local chip shop L'Alba D'Oro.
He was also quick to clarify with confused users on Twitter that The Oxford Bar was not open, adding: "For those saying: I thought pubs were in lockdown? They are. I took my own can and a glass, drank my drink, then walked home."
If, like Ian Rankin, you are gasping for a pint then it may come as a surprise to hear that pubs could reopen - but under tough restrictions that would see drinkers limited to three pints.
New plans for an exit from lockdown have detailed how pubs may be forced to operate in terms outlined by economist and government advisor Professor Eyal Winter who calls for strict social distancing rules.
