Ian Poveda posts injury update beside picture of crutches following injury in U23 run-out

Ian Poveda has provided an update on the injury which he suffered on Sunday while playing Leeds United’s under-23 side.

Poveda came on as a half-time substitute in the Premier League 2 clash against Sunderland on Sunday afternoon, but went down less than 10 minutes after his introduction.

The winger was floored following a clash in the centre circle and could not continue after sustaining what looked like an ankle injury.

Total costs of Premier League squads

Despite receiving treatment from the physio he was forced off the pitch, leaving Leeds with 10 men after they had made all their substitutions.

Leeds were 1-0 up at the time, thanks to a Tyler Roberts penalty, and won the game 2-0 through a Niall Huggins finish, but were left sweating on the fitness of Poveda at full-time.

However, the 20-year-old former Manchester City man has allayed fears over the severity of the problem with a post on his Instagram account.

Poveda posted on his Instagram story on Tuesday (@iancarlo_10)

“All good, no worries,” he wrote on his story with a picture of his left leg up on a sofa, with crutches in the background.

That news will come as a relief to Leeds, who already have other players on the sidelines due to injury at the moment.

Record signing Rodrigo had to be replaced just 20 minutes into the 3-1 win over Leicester on Sunday after suffering a muscle injury, although he later described it as a “minor setback”.

Raphinha was substituted for Helder Costa during the match at the King Power Stadium after picking up a knock, while Patrick Bamford sustained a dead leg, but Marcelo Bielsa played down the severity of the issues on Monday, saying they were “less worrying”.

However, summer signings Diego Llorente and Robin Koch both remain sidelined with injuries, while Gaetano Berardi and Adam Forshaw are also unavailable for Wednesday’s home match against Everton.

Leeds host the Toffees at Elland Road in a 19.30 kick-off on Wednesday hoping to make it three successive Premier League victories.
