Ian Ogle's family's baby joy after "awful year"

The family of an East Belfast man killed at the beginning of the year have told how a new baby has “given them hope”.

Ian Ogle, 45, was killed outside his home in Cluan Place in January.

His family has told Belfast Live that the birth of Carson Ian Ogle in the last few weeks has “given everybody a real lift”.

The news came as a shock to Ian’s brother, Colin, 48, and his partner Lisa, 44 but they said they are treating it as a “blessing from Ian”.

Lisa told Belfast Live: “I didn’t know until I was 20 weeks pregnant. My other youngest is 13 so it came as a bit of a shock to us.

“I worked out the timing and it was like a wee blessing from Ian. From the start we said we wanted to call him after Ian, definitely.

“It’s been really hard for all of us. It's been an awful year. There’s a big wider circle of people that have been affected.

“Since he’s been born it’s really lifted everyone. Ian’s mummy was really bad on her birthday a few weeks ago so she came to see him.

“And she said that it raised her up. It’s just given everybody a real lift.”

Ian’s daughter Toni said that naming the baby after her dad was “a lovely tribute”.

She told Belfast Live: “It’s lifted us all as a family. We’re looking at him as a wee blessing from our daddy.

“We believe that he’s been sent down to us to keep us going. It is bittersweet because we’re all saddened that daddy isn’t here to meet him, he absolutely adored all his nieces and nephews.”

  • A number of men have appeared in charged in connection with Ian Ogle’s death.
