Ian Ogle death: PPS says two more to face murder prosecution

Two more people are to be prosecuted for murder following the death of Ian Ogle.

The Public Prosecution Service has confirmed that two suspects face prosecution, while a further five people may also be tried for “associated offences”.

The news comes in the wake of a number of other people being told they are to be prosecuted for offences arising out of the killing which happened in January 2019.

A PPS spokesperson said: “The PPS can confirm that a decision has been taken to prosecute a further two suspects who were reported to this office by the PSNI for the offence of murder. A decision has been taken to prosecute five others for associated offences and the Ogle family have been informed of these decisions. As this is a live case there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice proceedings.”

In June Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard that three men are to be prosecuted for murder following the community worker’s death.

Mr Ogle, 45, was beaten and stabbed to death near his home at Cluan Place in the east of the city. The attack, which took place during a long-running feud, was said to have lasted for around 30 seconds.

Previous courts were told he is believed to have been targeted in response to an altercation earlier the same night.
