Police have confirmed that the man who died after being hit by a car in Edinburgh last night was Ian Meldrum.
The 63-year-old, from the Corstorphine area, is thought to have stepped off a bus on Queensferry Road before being hit by a Nissan Note car at around 9:10 pm last night (7 January).
Police say Mr Meldrum was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have released this statement: "We are devastated, it is hard to come to terms with the news.
"Words will not describe how sorely he will be missed. We would like to thank those who stopped to help Ian, we are very thankful you were there."
Elsewhere, heartbroken friends took to social media to pay tribute to a "pure gentleman".
Scott Meldrum wrote on Facebook: "Gobsmacked RIP Ian."
Shirley Graham said: "Thinking of all the family at this terrible time."
Police have launched an appeal for information as enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
Sergeant Jennifer Forbes of Edinburgh Road Policing Unit said that they have already spoken to some witnesses, but want anyone else who saw what happened to come forward.
