Sir Ian McKellen has announced a mammoth UK tour of one man shows in honour of his 80th birthday next year.
The tour runs from January to August and he’s making more than a few stops in London along the way, playing 20 dates at theatres and arts centres across the city.
His fee and all the profits will be donated to each theatre’s charitable projects or restoration funds.

What’s in the show?
It’ll be a mix of acting and anecdotes, with some Shakespeare and Tolkien, as well as a bit of gay poetry and memories of the battle to change laws around homosexuality. McKellen has also hinted than he might be joined by acting friends should they turn up on the night. He told the Standard: “It’s not a farewell tour. It’s more like ‘Oh, hello again!’” Audience members will also get the chance to act with him on stage.
