Ian McCall sacked by Partick Thistle following Rangers defeat as Kris Doolan takes interim charge

Ian McCall has been SACKED by Partick Thistle with Kris Doolan taking interim charge at Firhill.

The big news comes just hours after the Scottish Championship side ran Scottish Cup holders Rangers all the way at Ibrox in a last 16 five-goal thriller. The Jags took the lead from Kevin Holt's penalty after VAR penalised Antonio Colak for handball. The Croatian striker levelled five minutes into the second half before Malik Tillman netted a controversial second for the hosts. Michael Beale allowed Thistle a walk-through goal from kick-off through Scott Tiffoney after the incredible scenes but the Light Blues grabbed a winner with five minutes to play through an own goal to secure a spot in the quarter-final draw.

McCall took part in his post-match media duties before the shock news was released by the club. A statement on the official Partick Thistle website reads: "Partick Thistle FC have this evening relieved Ian McCall, Alan Archibald and Neil Scally, of their duties in relation to the first team with immediate effect.

"The club would like to place on record it’s sincere appreciation to all three for their contributions to Partick Thistle over many years. Under 18 coach Kris Doolan will take on the role of First Team Manager on an interim basis, and will be assisted in this regard by Academy Director Paul McDonald.

"At this crucial juncture of the season, we ask all members of the Partick Thistle family, to get behind Kris and the team as we strive for promotion to the Scottish Premiership. No further comment will be made this evening."

The Jags currently sit fifth in the second tier just one point off Morton in the Premiership play-off spots after 23 games. They trail league leaders Queen's Park by ten points, having played one game less.
