Ian Holm dead: Lord Of The Rings star dies aged 88 after battle with Parkinson's

Lord Of The Rings legend Ian Holm has died.

The 88-year-old passed away in hospital after battling with Parkinson's.

The actor was known best for his iconic role as Bilbo Baggins in the LOTR saga.

His agent announced the tragic news in a statement this morning.

"It is with great sadness that  the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88.

"He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer.

"Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely."

Ian leaves behind his artist wife, Sophie de Stempel.
