Ian Holloway on talk of Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa getting the vacant Arsenal job

Former manager turned pundit Ian Holloway has dismissed claims Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa should be considered for the vacant Arsenal job.

Last week, Unai Emery, 48, was relieved of his duties at Arsenal with a host of big names being rumoured to replace him.

Bielsa, 64, who has steered Leeds United to the top of the Championship this season, is currently .

Former Sunderland defender Micky Gray, now a regular Championship pundit, has claimed Bielsa should be considered for the Premier League role.

While, former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, 47, a known disciple of Bielsa’s managerial teachings is 6/1 to make the switch across North London.

Holloway gave his views on the matter while appearing on Alan Brazil’s TalkSport breakfast show.

He said: “I heard Micky Gray say Bielsa should be in the frame for Arsenal."

Brazil, who has previously put his foot in it with Bielsa, interjected: “I don’t know where that’s come from.”

Holloway continued: “So, Bielsa is like dad to Pochettino but I’m saying Rafa Benitez all day long because if you look at Bielsa he couldn’t get Leeds up last year but Rafa came down (with Newcastle United) took them back up as champions and kept them up.

“This Poch thing is fine but at the end of your career you need to win something. On my CV, I have three relegations and three promotions, two to the Premier League, that’s on my CV. What’s he got?”

Over the weekend, following Leeds United’s 4-0 victory over Middlesborough, Holloway was a little more appreciative of Bielsa when he was working as a pundit for Quest’s Championship coverage.

Holloway, commenting on Leeds United's play, said: "That move and that finish was top draw. You could argue that Middlesbrough should have done better, but that was a brilliant corner routine from Bielsa again. What can you say?

"You've got to tip your hat off."

Leeds United were handed a trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Monday evening.
