Ian Garry announces TV host wife is pregnant after UFC 273 win

After picking up his second win in the UFC, Irish prospect Ian Garry announced his wife Layla is pregnant with their first child.

Garry outpointed Darian Weeks at UFC 273 in Jacksonville, Florida to extend his unbeaten record to 9-0. There was little action in the fight, with Garry landing most of his best shots in the final round as the judges saw it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in his favour.

In his post-fight interview, Garry revealed his child with 39-year-old wife Layla is due to give birth at the end of this year. "My wife is pregnant, we are expecting at the end of the year," he told UFC commentator Jon Anik.

Garry and his wife have been together since early last year and the pair got married in February at the Sure Thing Chapel in Las Vegas. It came just three months after Garry announced they were engaged before he made his UFC debut last November.

They first met during Garry's time in Cage Warriors whilst Layla hosted TV segments for the promotion. Garry was picked up by the UFC after winning the vacant welterweight title last June for the UK based promotion.

Garry admitted that he wasn't satisfied with his performance against Weeks as he wanted to win by knockout. 'The Future' knocked out Jordan Williams in his promotional debut, but Weeks put up a gritty performance to take Garry all three rounds.

"I was having trouble finding my rhythm. It's 15 minutes in the cage, I'm not happy with it as I like finishing fights, but it's experience and as I've said before. I'm not perfect that but I'm getting there. I know I've got a lot to learn. Dana, Mick, Sean, line them up, I'll knock them out. By the time I'm done with this division, everyone is gonna be calling me daddy," he said.

Garry's UFC 273 opponent Weeks has now lost back to back fights in the promotion. The American, who also holds a professional boxing record of 1-1, suffered the first loss of his professional MMA career when he was outpointed by Bryan Barberena last December.
