Ian Evatt's verdict on third Mansfield Town fixture date and why Bolton Wanderers sought February 16

Ian Evatt has explained why Bolton Wanderers sought later this month as the date for the rearranged Mansfield Town fixture.

The League Two encounter has been postponed on two occasions already after weather issues caused problems for the One Call Stadium pitch.

The game was originally due to take place last month but a frozen pitch meant the game was called off and rearranged to last Tuesday.

But that rearranged game was also postponed around 90 minutes before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch owing to heavy rain in Nottinghamshire.

The clash against the Stags has now been given a third date of February 16 - meaning Wanderers have a run of Saturday-Tuesday games for the next five weeks in succession.

After the game was postponed on Tuesday, an angry Evatt vowed that any rearranged date for the game would be on Bolton's terms and a date of in a fortnight has been selected.

Evatt explained the date was chosen in light of the potential for other games to be postponed and the need to have time set aside later in the campaign for that eventuality.

But an advantage that Wanderers will have for the next game is that all January transfer deadline day signings - MJ Williams, Marcus Maddison, Lukas Jensen and Oladapo Afolayan - will be available for the rearranged fixture.

Evatt said: "We’ve had a good look at it and unfortunately for us, because we’ve got so many games left in a short space of time, really the 16th is the only week we can fit in until right at the back end.

"Obviously with the Covid situation and the weather with how it’s been, if any games get called off in March or April, we’ll be saving those spare weeks for those postponements.

"We had to get it in in February. It’s no bad thing.

"I think the positive for us is that all our players are now available for that game - on Tuesday, only MJ Williams would have been available - so it’ll be nice for the next game to have Dapo available, Lukas available and Madds available ready to go and play there.”
