Ian Evatt explains when decision will be made on Bolton Wanderers trialist defender

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt insists the Trotters will not be rushing into making decisions when it comes to assessing a centre half they currently have in on trial.

The Trotters boss confirmed on transfer deadline day that the League Two club are currently looking at a defender who is training with them.

Though Evatt has not publicly named the player in question, reports have suggested it is former Huddersfield Town, Sunderland and QPR defender Joel Lynch.

The 33-year-old had previously been training with Southend United for a few weeks.

Evatt has said that Bolton will not be rushing into making a decision, however, insisting that due diligence will be done and that the League Two side are not in a rush.

And the player must also earn a deal, though Evatt has been pleased with what he has seen in training so far.

He said: “We are not going to make the same mistakes as the past and rush into things.

“We need to make sure we do due diligence, ensure he can stay on the pitch, be healthy and robust enough to cope with what we are doing.

“We are not in a rush with it. He is still unattached and looking for a club so he has to come and earn it like everyone else.

"He is in that position and has trained well this week, so we will see how we go.

"There is no timescale on it, we’ll see how it develops."
